Manchester United’s season has gone from one struggle to another under David Moyes.
Unless you’ve been hibernating for the last nine months, you can’t
fail to have seen what, for some, has been the crumbling of an empire,
with the reigning Premier League champions a staggering 18 points off the top of the table, and 12 points behind the top four already.
Throw in the (high) likelihood of no European football in 2014-15, an FA Cup third round defeat at home by Swansea, and a 2-0 Champions League second round first leg loss to Olympiacos, and United have endured their worst campaign in over two decades.
Supporters who have got used to success during Sir Alex Ferguson’s
27-year tenure have struggled to come to terms with their return to
mortality under their new boss and are no doubt worried that their beleaguered side has hit rock bottom.
But perhaps they haven’t.
For United, who have lost eight times in the league this term, there
are still milestones which stand to be wrecked in their final 11 league
matches…
West Bromwich Albion (A) – March 8
The Baggies inflicted Moyes’ first defeat at Old Trafford
since his ascension to the top job at United, and in doing so earned
themselves a first win on the ground since a 5-3 win on December 30 1978
– back when Ron Atkinson was Baggies boss and Laurie Cunningham was
tearing apart defences.
If West Brom can earn their first win under Pepe Mel this weekend,
they’ll have done the double over United for the first time since that
1978-79 campaign.
Liverpool (H) – March 16
The two’s rivalry has always been heated but Liverpool have struggled
to keep up with United during the Ferguson years, finishing higher than
the Red Devils just once in the Premier League era
The gap between the two sides currently stands at 14 points, and if the Merseysiders
can snatch three points at Old Trafford, they’ll go some way to
finishing above their most bitter rivals for the first time in 12 years.

Goal-den: Sergio Aguero scores for City as they rout United at the Etihad
Yohan Cabaye may have gone, but he isn’t forgotten amongst the Toon Army, having scored the Magpies winner in their 1-0 success at Old Trafford back in December.
Alan Pardew’s side will hope to complete a first league double over
the 20-time English champions since the 1930-31 season, when they
recorded 4-3 and 7-4 wins.
Hull City (H) – April 12
The Tigers have never won a game at Old Trafford in their history. Never. Not one. Current Hull boss and former United captain Steve Bruce has never got the better of his former side as a manager, in 19 attempts (four draws, 15 defeats).
If ever there was a time to put those records right.

Everton (A) – April 20
Bryan Oviedo netted the only goal as Roberto Martinez’s side got one over their old boss earlier this term, giving the Toffees a first win at Old Trafford since 1992.
When United visit Goodison Park next month, the home side will not
only be looking for three points to help their bid for European
football, but will also be looking to do their first league double over
United in 44 years.
Norwich City (H) – April 26
The Canaries
are in desperate need of points as they bid to stave off relegation and
they’ll head to Old Trafford looking for a first win there since August
1989, when Dave Stringer’s side claimed a 2-0 win.
Sunderland (H) – May 3
The Mackems enjoyed a romping good night at Old Trafford back in January, Gus Poyet’s men claiming a Capital One Cup semi-final win over United on penalties.
In their relegation fight, they’ll look to secure victory inside 90
minutes, and doing so would see them claim a first league win on the
ground in 56 years – having beaten Matt Busby’s soon-to-be European Cup
winners 2-1
In more recent times, the Wearsiders haven’t won a league game home
or away against United since 1997 – a run of 23 matches, featuring 18
defeats.
THE QUESTION IS WILL MANCHESTER UNITED SECURE A TOP FOUR FINISH THIS SEASON??
